Three weeks old!

Three weeks gone by and I cannot believe how the time has flown by! We are still doing a lot of sleeping and eating in our house, (Again--not James and I! Will and Ada only!) little ones still taking a lot of energy just to grow. But we are enjoying just holding them and watching it happen. Already they look so much bigger to us--and the scale proves it. Ada has topped 8 lbs and Will is over 7 lbs! Yeah! Ada and Will are showing other signs of growing up too. They are having increasing periods of awakeness; they love to look into our eyes. They are beginning to lift their necks on their own, and are having big stretches more and more.

This week Grandpa Brian has come into town! He has jumped right in on twin patrol, and Ada and Will love having him here for bath time, story time, and their favorite--snuggle time! I love having his company and spare set of hands! He has been cooking and grocery shopping for us, and also restocked our diaper supply! We also continue to get many well wishes, thanks for all the emails and voicemails, they have been great 3am company! Grandma Cindy has also dropped off a cooler full of food from Market vendors to make sure everyone keeps eating! Aunt Rachel has kept me supplied with US Weekly, another great 3am reading companion! We are well looked out for!

First two weeks

We cant believe it has already been two weeks since these little guys were born! We have spent the past two weeks in a whirlwind of feedings and sleep--not for us of course--but trying to get Ada and Will into a routine at home. The great news is that we had our second trip to our Pediatrician and both Will and Ada have surpassed their birth weight! They are healthy and growing which we are very relieved about. Now if we could only get them to appreciate the difference between night and day, we'll really be on our way!

It has been super fun getting to know them more and more each day. They both have their distinct facial expressions, cries, and beginnings of personality. Ada has this amazing ability to randomly scream in her sleep. And nothing looks as peaceful as catching Will in a deep sleep. They already love story time, but probably not as much as I do! One of the most unexpected surprises of them so far is how often they sneeze! Puts a smile on my funny little face every time.

Thanks to everyone again for your well wishes. Grandma Carrie leaves tomorrow after moving in with us the past two weeks. We don't know what we're going to do without her! Ada and Will will certainly miss all her snuggling. James and I may not eat again! Enjoy the pics!

They're heeeere!

So as most of you know by now our babies were welcomed into the world last Friday, February 5th! Ada Marie Gentry and Will Leander Gentry were born healthy and screamin' at 859 and 9pm (Ada beat him out of the C section gate!). Ada weighed 6lbs 2oz and Will 5lbs 6oz. For health care dweebs, both their Apgar scores were 9 and 9!

The last week of pregnancy was a bit rough. My blood pressure was increasingly high by my 37th week of pregnancy and I was put on bedrest, preparing for the likely scenario of induction. My water broke by itself however early Friday morning. We got to hospital and my blood pressure was high enough that I needed to be started on a medicine to lower it called Magnesium. Unfortunately Magnesium does a great job of slowing labor so I also needed to be started on a drug to stimulate labor called Pitocin. The balance act however failed, and led to 8 hours of painful labor without any progression. My blood pressure remained high. I felt like Frankenstein hooked up 6 wires/machines throughout the duration of labor. That, along with my high blood pressure, meant moving around was not an option! James and I with our doctor decided C section was essentially inevitable, given that the babies needed to be born within 24hrs of my water breaking and me having yet to dilate past 2cm locked in bed!

Although not what we planned, Ada and Will were brought into the world safely and loved which was the most important thing for us. We were able to leave hospital on the second day, which we were so thankful for. Grandma Carrie and Grandpa Al have been here to help with baby patrol and Aunt Rachel and Grandma Cindy also have been a huge help as we learn how to manage our new life as parents of twins! Babies have been popular with other visitors to welcome them into the world, including buddies Tony and Dana, Steve and Kiva, Oliver, Ian, and Aunt Carolyn. We have also gotten a swarm of well wishes via text, email, and voicemails from all over the country! Thanks for thinking of us; we hope to catch up with each of you soon!

We are entirely blissed out over the arrival of these amazing little people, despite our exhaustion! Our life during week one has been learning how to balance their feedings and sleep. We learn a bit more every day on how to read their subtle signals into what they need. We had our first Pediatrician visit and they are both gaining weight after about a 10% drop day one after birth, which we are very relieved about. Enjoy the pics!

Day time snooze together. It is hard to appreciate how much hair Will has next to Ada who sported a full head since birth. Pretty nice fohawk here. Some are taking bets that Will's hair will turn red, now James and I are convinced it is pretty brown.
